I wanted to take a moment to introduce you guys to an AWESOME group of kids. Tayllor, Shelby, Mary Cate, Laura, Tony, and Brock. These teens have decided to take on a challenge put out by ABC’S 20/20 to “Be The Change” and “Save a Life”, a national initiative to help battle health conditions in the poorest of poor regions throughout the world. They have decided to fight against Malnutrition, with 925 Million people being undernourished in the world, their help is definitely needed. They are currently looking to areas within Haiti and Latin America as to where to focus their efforts and look to finalize their choice within the week.
What are these guys going to do? They are co-ordinating a group of fundraisers throughout 2011 in an effort to raise enough money to feed an entire village for a year in 2012. ABC’s 20/20 estimated the cost of feeding a village for a year at being $25,000. Some of the big fundraisers they are planning are : 30 hour Famine, 5k Run, Teen Consignment Sale, and a SAVE Rave. There will be smaller fundraisers in addition to the larger ones.
These kids are SO focused on making a difference they know that just “feeding” a village won’t be enough. They felt if they were really going to help, they needed to create a plan for the Village to be able to sustain themselves after. They are currently researching options through “World Vision”, “Doctor’s without Borders”, some opportunities of local missionaries within the areas they are considering, as well as smaller grass root outreach programs.
They have officially named themselves S.A.V.E : Sustaining A Village Everyday. They are working on dates for their big fundraisers and planning their schedules for the smaller ones. At the beginning of March they will start inviting their friends, and friends of friends, to join them at our weekly meetings so they too can plug in and help accomplish this worth while goal.
In support of their goal and personal belief in their abilities I am donating every Tuesday’s Blog to Tayllor. She will write a weekly update on their progress and current fundraising opportunities which I will post on her behalf. I hope you guys will follow S.A.V.E. ‘s progress, encourage them when you can, and partner with them if you will! They will need more teen participation ( if you have one…bring them), adults who want to help at events (yes…YOU), corporate sponsors (you can be on our t-shirts), like-kind donations, and of course….MONEY
We are working to finalize their tax deductible status and hope to have that before long!!
